Phytoremediation

Although this part of my initial project was dropped out, I wished to share with you some information about phytoremediation, that is to use plants to depollute soil. I think this can be of general interest.
I have found a very nice guide here. It was developed by Urban Omnibus, "an online project of the Architectural League to create a new kind of conversation about design and New York City."

Paulina Rypakova's proposal

Paulina's concept is based on using primarily ecological and recycled materials, and designed using organic shapes.

Paulina was inspired by these images:

Materials:

The garden will have a flat landscape, with a groundcover of pebbles and moss.  There will be a one meter high fence around the garden.  Solar powered lights will be spread throughout the garden.  There will be two entrances into the garden.

The planting areas will be built out of timbers or wood, tiered to allow for seating as well as planting areas.

Large porous bags will be also used for planting, and a shed will be provided for storing tools.
